Attention all distance runners...
I hope you had a great day!
Tuesday (tomorrow) has been declared "CLEAR THE TRACK" day by the powers that be....(Yes, that's me!) With our roads and sidewalks in horrible condition for groups runs and indoor spaces not much of an option we need to think outside the box a bit.
Believe it or not we didn't always have a beautiful fieldhouse and fitness center....The great runners of the past found ways to train and clearing the track of snow was just something that was expected. I was given permission from administration to bring the team out and clear some lanes and let the sun do the rest. Yes, cold weather will be with us for a while but the sooner we get this snow off the track the sooner we can plan and organize contact days for you. I cleared a path to the track today and started in with the snow removal...all we need now is a lot of hands and some motivated runners to come out and finish the job. I really think we can knock it out tomorrow if we get enough help (the girls team will be helping, too).
Here are the details:
1. You MUST be approved to be on campus for classes/activities to participate tomorrow...meaning you have to have submitted a saliva test last week to be on campus this week.
2. When: Tomorrow, right after school...come out to the stadium and check in with me or one of the other coaches by the gate we used for cross country practice.
3. BRING YOUR OWN PLASTIC SHOVEL...our track is brand new so we need to protect it. We cannot put a metal blade, snow blower or plow blade on the surface...we just need to get some sun exposure on the surface the next few days. The snow is pretty deep, wear some boots!
4. Stay as long as you can even if it's 30 minutes. Every extra set of hands will be appreciated!
5. Remember, this is YOUR season! Do everything you can to make sure you have success this spring. We could all sit back and wait for warmer weather and make excuses why we can't train or we can rally together to make sure that we can train consistently and safely.
