Congrats to all of our Track and Field Athletes for a fantastic week! Respectively, our teams finished 1st (Varsity), 2nd (Freshman) and 3rd (Frosh/Soph) in their Indoor CSL Championships meets.
Much like last season the varsity meet came down to the final event of the evening. The Titans trailed Evanston by 3 points as the teams lined up for the 4 x 400 Relay needing to beat the Wildkits by at least 2 places to gain the points back. Leading the race from start to finish the quartet came across the line several seconds ahead of New Trier to seal the deal. In the process, Ryan Schaefer, Michael Jerva, Noah Shapiro and Brian Hiltebrand established a new GBS indoor school record! What a great way to end the night!
The Varsity team was led by multiple champions in addition to the 4 x 400 Relay. Other 1st place finishers included: Ben Freidinger, Ryan Schaefer, Scott Peters and Noah Shapiro (4 x 200 Relay), Brian Hiltebrand (800 Meter Run), Ryan Schaefer (Long Jump) and Nathan Shapiro (55 Meter Dash, 55 Meter Low Hurdles, 200 Meter Dash). Displaying great depth, GBS also had 6 runner up finishes and 3 3rd place finishes...Fantastic team effort.
The Frosh/Soph team had 2 individual champions including: Rohan Thota (Pole Vault) and Thomas Zambianchi (200 Meter Dash). Combined with 2 Freshmen champions on Monday (Ben Berthoff-Pole Vault and William Fontana, Isaac Mathew, Jan Szmajda, Caleb Terrill-4 x 400 Relay) GBS captured 11 CSL Track and Field Championships this week!
